Toilets, showers, tubs and bathroom fixtures
Bathroom work is where most scheduled plumbing lives. None of it is dramatic and all of it is annoying, which is why it tends to sit on the list for months. It is also the easiest category to batch into one visit.
What this covers
- Toilet repair, rebuild and replacement
- Running and phantom flushing toilets
- Shower valve and cartridge replacement
- Tub spout and diverter repair
- Showerhead, faucet and trim installation
- Sink drain and pop up assembly work
- Supply lines and angle stops under the vanity
- Toilet reseating and flange repair
Call about this when
- A toilet that runs, or refills on its own without a flush
- A shower that will not hold a steady temperature
- Water coming from the tub spout while the shower is running
- A toilet that rocks when you sit on it
- A sink that drains slowly no matter how often you clear the trap
Worth knowing before you call
A toilet that runs is not a small thing on a water bill. The fix is usually a flapper or a fill valve, both cheap parts, and a plumber who is already in the house for something else can do it in minutes. This is the single best argument for batching: the trip charge is the expensive part of a small job, so make one trip cover five of them.
A rocking toilet is worth moving up the list. The rocking breaks the wax seal, and once that goes, water works into the subfloor every flush. Caught early it is a reset and a new seal. Left for a year it can become a subfloor repair, and that is a different trade and a different bill.
Batch it. The trip charge is the expensive part of a small plumbing job, and it is the same whether the plumber fixes one thing or five. Before you call, walk the house and write down everything: the toilet that runs, the shower that will not hold temperature, the faucet you have been meaning to replace since last year. Hand over the whole list at once. It is the single easiest way to spend less.
