Water heaters give you warning before they quit. The recovery time stretches, the hot runs out earlier than it used to, the tank starts making a popping noise as it heats. Most people book the replacement the week after the first cold shower, which is a week later than they needed to.

There is a real difference between a clog and a problem. One fixture draining slowly is a clog. Two or more fixtures backing up at once, or a toilet that gurgles when the washing machine drains, points at the main line, and snaking it only buys time.

Bathroom work is where most scheduled plumbing lives. None of it is dramatic and all of it is annoying, which is why it tends to sit on the list for months. It is also the easiest category to batch into one visit.

Kitchen drains fail differently from bathroom drains. Bathroom lines clog with hair. Kitchen lines clog with grease, which cools on the way down, coats the inside of the pipe and narrows it a little more every month until the day it closes.

Water quality work is worth starting with a test rather than with a product. Spots on glassware, a smell, dry skin and a scaled up kettle have different causes, and the equipment that fixes one does nothing for another.

Remodel plumbing is the part of a renovation nobody photographs and everybody pays for twice if it is done in the wrong order. The plumbing rough in happens while the walls are open, and it is the one stage that is expensive to revisit.
